URL Encode
& Decode

Turn spaces and special characters into safe URL text, or read an encoded component in plain language.

Convert a URL component

Use this for one URL component such as a query value. For a full link, use the URL Parser.

Enter text, then choose an action.

When should you encode a URL?

Query values and path segments can contain spaces, ampersands, emoji or other characters that have special meaning in a link. Encoding one component makes it safe to place inside a URL.

Component encoding versus full links

This tool uses encodeURIComponent and decodeURIComponent. It is designed for a single value, not an entire URL. Encoding a whole link would also escape its :, / and ? separators.

What happens to your text?

Conversion runs in your browser. The tool does not send the input to a server or open any link.
